How it Works
OUTSIDERS transforms real-world activities into fun and rewarding experiences.
Instead of capturing endless attention, the app encourages children to step away from screens to explore life: playing outdoors, playing sports, creating art, cooking, helping around the house, interacting with friends, and enjoying family experiences.
Offline activities generate points, achievements, and symbolic rewards within the app. Children document their experiences with photos and videos that can be shared only on a secure micro-social network consisting of real family members and friends approved by parents.
Unlike traditional parental control apps, OUTSIDERS does not block or punish. Children are the protagonists of the experience, while parents act as allies and encouragers.
The business model is the opposite of traditional social media: OUTSIDERS profits by reducing screen time, not by maximizing user retention and attention consumption.
Solution Context
In Brazil, about 90% of children and adolescents spend an average of 9 hours a day on their cell phones—the second-highest rate in the world. Approximately 44% of young people already consider themselves addicted to screens. Among the observed effects are irritability, inattention, sleep disturbances, declining academic performance, anxiety, and reduced IQ.
Traditional parental control apps focus only on blocking symptoms, often increasing tension and family conflict.
OUTSIDERS proposes a paradigm shift: rather than controlling, it invites children to rediscover the joys of the offline world. The project is fully aligned with the new Digital ECA (Law 15.211/2025), directly addressing growing global concerns about children’s mental health and excessive technology use.
