How it Works
Magic Rewilding Pencils is an interactive augmented reality and artificial intelligence app that allows you to take a photo of any place and, with simple gestures as if you were drawing with a magic pencil, transform that scene into a regenerated space.
The app automatically detects flat or degraded areas in the photos, suggesting ideal spots for vegetation. The user then chooses from a palette of “magic pencils,” each representing a type of natural element: fruit trees, native flowers, tropical ferns, shrubs, rain gardens, etc. As you slide your finger across the image, as if drawing, vegetation magically grows over the photographed space.
The app works as a tool for ecological imagination and playful activism, allowing anyone to create regenerated versions of their favorite neighborhood, square, or street. Images can be saved, shared on social media, or sent to a regenerative urban ideas bank.
Solution Context
Most of people’s everyday landscapes are filled with concrete, asphalt, and monochromatic, lifeless scenes — whether in brutalist cities or degraded rural areas. This constant exposure to the ugly and the dead negatively affects our emotional and mental well-being.
Magic Rewilding Pencils is a proposal for symbolic and creative reconnection with nature — a first step towards collectively dreaming of regenerated cities and territories. By re-enchanting our gaze upon places and generating positive visualizations, we stimulate the desire for real transformation.
